PROJECT // GLASSELL SCHOOL OF ART BENEFIT AND AUCTION
[2014 // 2015 // 2016 // 2017 // 2018]
This not-to-be-missed fundraiser celebrates the entire Glassell School community. Beginning with cocktails and dinner, the main attraction is always the silent auction of Glassell student and faculty artwork. Of all the MFAH benefits this one allows a more fun, relaxed approach.

This was the year Miley Cyrus had the hit song “Wrecking Ball” and the Glassell School of Art was being prepped for demolition. The building's iconic glass blocks featured on the invitation were auctioned off with minimum bids of $100. This year also marks my first attempt to blind postal workers using PMS 1655. (See more of this incredible and very, very bright orange used for the 2016 Fine Art of Clay Shooting.)

This was one helluva party—complete with an 8-foot disco ball shark that hung above the DJ booth. The Chair chose Hunter S. Thompson as the theme and it was an event he would have enjoyed attending. This evening also premiered the use of an online auction which was a huge success.

The Beatles provided inspiration for this party. I certainly did not mind listening to the Yellow Submarine album and watching the movie to prepare myself for drawing the Beatles, the Blue Meanie, and his minions. (Shutterstock provided the friendly submarine and trippy background.) I normally avoid gradients but this was certainly a worthy exception to my rule.

What a blast going back to the future for an ‘80s-themed evening. The legal department wasn’t too excited, but the guests loved seeing a Dolorean parked at the Museum’s historic front entrance.

This year’s event was all about the completion of the art school’s new building. When this job hit my desk there was no theme provided. Thankfully the Chairs loved my theme “Let’s Celebrate!” And YAY foil!
